Introduction
The Maldives has long been a top destination for travelers. It’s got clear blue water, tropical weather, beautiful beaches, and more resorts than you can count. But if you’re looking to travel to the Maldives on a budget, things can get a little tricky. The good news is that it’s possible! Just follow my guide and I’ll show you how to find cheap accommodation in this tropical paradise as well as some other tips on how to save money while still experiencing everything there is to see and do here.
Where to stay in the Maldives on a budget
- Choose a budget resort
The Maldives is famous for its luxury resorts, but you can experience the same beautiful beaches and turquoise water at more affordable accommodations. Many budget hotels have excellent reviews, so look for deals on these properties. If you’re able to splurge on airfare, you might also want to consider staying at one of the luxury resorts that offer discounts when booking with an airline or hotel chain (for example, Hyatt).
- Look for discounts and deals
The best way to save money on your trip is by booking it well in advance—but don’t wait too long! The Maldives is very popular among international tourists and there tend to be fewer rooms available during peak season (December through March).
- Stay outside of Male City Center
Most tourists opt for staying in Male City Center because its close proximity makes it easy to explore the city. However, this comes at a price as most hotels here are significantly more expensive than in other parts of Malé Atoll like Boli Isand or Kolhumadulu Atoll. Additionally, there isn’t much variety when it comes down to which type of accommodation options are available within this area since most resorts tend to stick closer together due to space constraints caused by the limited land area available around Male Island itself should expect higher pricing due result
Tips for getting the best deal when booking accommodation
Once you have a list of your must-see places, it’s time to book accommodation. It’s best to book as early as possible. Some hotels have deals on booking.com and agoda.com, so check these websites first for the best deals. If those don’t work for you, try HotelsCombined or Expedia (this includes flights too).
If you can’t find anything during this period, don’t worry! Skyscanner is another great option that allows users to search multiple providers at once in order to find the lowest price on any given route/hotel/flight combo they want!
The cheapest places to stay in the Maldives
The cheapest places to stay on the Maldives are in its outer islands, where many hotels and resorts are located. This is because these locations are less popular and thus require fewer staff. That said, if you’re looking for a more luxurious experience than what can be offered on the outer islands, then you may have to look toward some of the inner island destinations like Baa Atoll or Ari Atoll.
With these tips, you’ll be able to find cheap accommodation in the Maldives or just cheap stays so you can spend more on experiencing the country.
Fortunately, there are several ways to find cheap accommodation in the Maldives. I’ve previously written an article on how you can save money on your trip by booking a cheap hotel in Manila, so if you want to read more about that, go here. However, here are some tips that will help you out when booking a stay at your favourite resort and island destination:
- Look for deals online
- Sign up for newsletters from resorts/hotels
- Use Google Flights/Kayak/Skyscanner (or other similar sites) to find cheap flights
- Sign up for AirBnB
